Ferro Zirconium consists of approximately 80% Zirconium and 20% Iron and is regarded as a master alloy.

Properties of Ferro Zirconium

Ferro Zirconium is a strong grain refiner and acts as a getter of Nitrogen, Sulphides & Oxides while aiding Carbide formation in speciality metals. The addition of Zirconium improves impact resistance, yield strength and hardenability (a measure of the capacity of steel to be hardened in depth when quenched from its austenitic temperature).

 

Uses

Ferro Zirconium is used in the production of Stainless Steels, Special Steels and some Cobalt and Nickel-based superalloys.
